HGV Class 1 Driver / General Operative

Road Maintenance Services Limited is based near Warrington in Cheshire where our main depot is located.

We also have three depots located in Wales.

The company works for Councils and Term Maintenance Contractors with the base work load being Carriageway Surface Dressing, Carriageway Micro Asphalt and Asphalt Preservation.

All these operations involve Heavy Goods Vehicles of some description.

The work is seasonal, with the season being from April until September.

The terms and conditions of the employment contract state that there are no holidays to be taken during the season.

The surfacing teams work away from home for twelve days at a time at the end of which the teams are off for Saturday and Sunday.

We are looking to recruit HGV Class 1 drivers who are prepared to labour as well with the mix being around 50/50.

The basic rate is £8.44 per hour, Overtime rate 1 £12.66 per hour, Overtime rate 2 at £16.88 per hour.

The first 8 hours Monday to Thursday and the first 7 hours on Friday are paid at basic rate, the next four hours on all days are paid at overtime rate 1 with any time over this paid at overtime rate 2.

The first four hours on Saturday are paid at Overtime time 1 with the remainder being paid at Overtime rate 2.

All hours on Sunday are paid at Overtime rate 2.

There is substantial overtime, weather permitting.

Accommodation is found and provided free of charge with subsistence being paid at £25 per night which is taxed.

HGV Fitter, Nr Knutsford, Cheshire

Salary/Wage Rate: £11.50ph

Working Hours: 39 hour basic + overtime weekdays (weekend overtime               is expected)

The Role: The candidate for this position will be a team player who is able to work to deadlines and have the ability to use their own initiative.

Qualifications: The applicant must be a, hands on, fully qualified HGV technician.

Consideration may be given to Semi Skilled applicants with relevant experience working on HGV vehicles and large construction plant / equipment whom has ideally attended and passed a DVSA inspection course.

Current, clean HGV class 2 driving license preferred.

Other skills: It would be advantageous for the applicant to have experience of pneumatic, hydraulic systems, general fabrication and automotive electrical knowledge.

Depot Foreman

Salary: Circa £21,000 p.a. + OT

Reporting to: Depot Manager

Location: Knutsford, Cheshire

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: Full Time

Overall Job Summary:

To supervise operations and instruct employees whilst working within our main Depot, to work in conjunction with Depot personnel to ensure routine requirements and standards are met and maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing, motivating and supervising employees working and conducting tasks with-in the Depot.
  • Induction and Supervision of Sub Contractors whilst working in Depot areas; ensure required tasks are completed satisfactorily and in a timely manner without detriment to workload / main company operations.
  • Creation of Job Sheets, conduct and produce Risk Assessments, Method statements for required tasks. Overseeing that all necessary paperwork is completed accurately as requested, that all relevant information / documentation is then returned to the office and entered into our network database system.
  • To work with Transport / Workshops Departments and comply with company procedure when booking units /equipment in and out of the Depot.
  • Liaise Closely with Depot Manager and Depot offices to ensure the effective communication of current requirements and status of imminent workloads.
  • Ensure that Daily / Monthly checks are carried out and documented on Depot Equipment as required, that Defect reports / Faults on Depot equipment and Facilities is dealt with in a timely manner, that any repairs conducted are documented/ recorded as required in conjunction with the Workshops.
  • Responsible for the planning, location and safe storage of items / equipment in the Depot, ensure cleanliness of Items and Equipment whilst kept in the Depot.
  • Arrangement and supervise service schedules of facilities / equipment in the Depot in conjunction with Workshops department as appropriate.
  • Oversee general stock levels and communicate related reorder of consumables via purchasing department / Depot offices.
  • Assist in the organisation of training for employees working in the Depot where required.

Competence, Experience and Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory experience in a commercial yard environment.
  • Strong, Effective leadership skills are essential.
  • Valid Driving Licence, (LGV class 2 would be advantageous but not essential).
  • Forklift Truck / Telehandler Licence.
  • Computer Literacy.
  • CSCS (would be advantageous but not essential).
  • Highly motivated, flexibility to support the needs of the business.
  • Desire to take ownership and make a difference whilst improving standards and promoting a safety first environment.
  • To communicate company information to others in a positive manor, and ability the support, train and coach other employees as required.
  • Basic understanding of simple civil works, plumbing, electrics.
